Taurus has advanced semen analyzer; only one in U.S.

MEHOOPANY, Pa. -- Taurus-Service has purchased the SQA-Vb semen analyzer, a digital analysis machine used by some of the most progressive AI organizations around the world.
Taurus-Service is the only U.S. stud that has purchased the SQA-Vb evaluation system and put it into everyday use for semen evaluation and processing at their Mehoopany semen production center. Kathy Sands, lab manager, states that the digital analyzer will monitor possible human error and standardize the production of the highest quality semen with more progressive motile sperm cells to increase conception for Taurus customers. Taurus semen quality is known to be superior in the industry.
The SQA-Vb is the latest innovation in sperm analysis. It evaluates sperm samples for motility, progressive motility and concentration. From this info it computes the concentration of motile and progressively motile sperm. It also determines the amount of dilutor needed to reach the optimum number of straws and allows Taurus to produce straws with more progressive motile sperm cells than the average of the AI industry.
The SQA-Vb has the ability to capture images of the semen sampled, either a still photo or a video clip. This will enable Taurus to have a permanent record for each bull that can be posted on their website, or e-mailed to specific destinations or customers.
This machine is the future in the AI industry for sperm analysis, according to Dick Witter, owner of Taurus. Currently most methods used, particularly for determining motility, are very subjective. The SQA-Vb eliminates the “human factor” normally involved in such evaluations and helps ensure that the best quality semen will be produced at Taurus Service.
Taurus will be able to offer large herd customers the option to purchase a bull’s entire daily semen production as processed at the Taurus-Service lab and verified by the SQA-Vb. This will include all data and a picture of the sperm. Potential customers that may have an interest in purchasing volumes of one sire may contact Taurus-Service President Richard Witter or Sales Manager Rinell Vincent to discuss mutually beneficial options and competitive per straw prices.
