Deadline for hotel reservations at the lower rate is June 3

REYNOLDSBURG, Ohio -- Michael L. Brown, director of dairy economics and policy for Glanbia Foods, Inc., will be the keynote speaker at the 56th annual meeting of National All-Jersey Inc. The deadline for hotel reservations at the convention rate is June 3.

The meeting will convene at 8:00 a.m. Eastern time on Friday, June 27, at the Holiday Inn & Suites-Historic District in Alexandria, Va.

Glanbia Foods is the largest American-style cheese manufacturer and among the largest whey ingredient producers in the United States. The company manufactures highly-acclaimed cheeses and nutritional ingredients for customers worldwide at five U.S. facilities, four in the Magic Valley region of southern Idaho and the fourth in Clovis, N.M., a Southwest Cheese joint venture. Glanbia posted sales of $1.8 billion to rank 21st on the 2013 Top 100 Processors list published by Dairy Foods magazine.

Mike Brown has over 25 years of experience in U.S. and dairy trade policy, milk pricing, and farm and plant economics. In addition to analyzing both domestic and international dairy markets for Glanbia, he coordinates its work on economic and trade regulatory issues and manages Glanbia’s other U.S. dairy policy initiatives. Mike was part of a team that retooled Glanbia’s end-product-pricing program, which prices milk directly on butterfat, casein, whey protein and other solids content, creating more incentive to produce high-protein milk.

From November 1993 through March of 2004, Mike was general manager of National All-Jersey Inc. His primary project was leading NAJ’s effort to expand protein-based component pricing into the majority of regulated milk markets, through addition of language in the 1996 Farm Bill and directing NAJ’s regulatory activity that followed the farm bill directive on component pricing. He was selected as recipient of the AJCA-NAJ Award for Meritorious Service in 2004.

Brown is a native of western New York, where he was raised on a small dairy farm. He earned a B.S. degree in dairy science at Virginia Tech, followed by graduate studies at Ohio State University. He now lives in Kenosha, Wis.
