Agronomy meetings slated in Virginia

BLACKSBURG, Va. -- Several agronomy meetings have been scheduled in the Shenandoah Valley, beginning with a “Glyphosate” update on March 19. Scott Hagood, renowned weed science specialist with Virginia Tech and Extension, will speak at two locations:
• Augusta County Extension office, 13 Government Center Lane, Verona, 9 a.m.
• Galen Beery’s shop at Flint Rock Farm, 7208 Rushville Rd., Dayton, 1:30 p.m.

Glyphosate (the active ingredient in Roundup, Glyphos, Touchdown and others) is getting a bad rap in the popular press for a myriad of issues -- some for good reason while some are debatable. Dr. Hagood will address these issues, and talk about strategies to utilize glyphosate sustainably.

On March 26, Dr. Ron Heiniger from North Carolina State University and James Adkins from the University of Delaware will speak on the topic of irrigation. Again, there will be two options:
• Tina’s Family Restaurant, 148 N. Main Street, Timberville, 11 a.m. and
• Cave View Farm Shop, 135 Cave View Lane, Weyers Cave, 6 p.m.

Speakers Heiniger and Adkins will discuss strategies to utilize irrigation to the maximum efficiency.
