Holstein field night attracted over 900; sale followed

The night-time crowd of over 900 people at the Lebanon County Holstein Field Night had much to stay awake for, including the line-up of cattle that were going to be sold the next morning.

LEBANON, Pa. -- Over 900 people were in attendance at the annual Lebanon County Field Night held on Friday, August 16. Smith-Manor Holsteins, Earl and Marilyn Smith and family, hosted the event. Guests enjoyed a catered meal sponsored by local agribusinesses, dairy judging, an entertaining speaker, door prizes and fellowshipping with one another. Ryan and Friends, a family comedian, served as the entertainment and Dr. Chad Dechow officiated the judging contest.

The Showcase Sale was also hosted by Smith-Manor Holsteins and took place the following morning. The 109 lots were on display throughout the field night, which drew many extra bidders, come sale morning.

Kevin High and Jason Kline co-managed the sale along with many volunteers. The sale averaged $1852 on 109 full lots.

The top seller was a first choice of five females by Braxton, due in September out of the catalog cover cow, an EX-94 Reserve All-Pennsylvania Outside daughter.
