PENNSYLVANIA HOLSTEIN ASSOCIATION
100th anniversary celebration coming soon

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. -- The Pennsylvania Holstein Association is celebrating its 100th anniversary. A weekend celebration is planned for Holstein enthusiasts past and present. Please join us as we highlight the last century of purebred Holsteins in Pennsylvania. All events will be held at the Penn Stater Hotel in State College the weekend of November 8-10.

Many activities have been planned, a brief update on the key parts of the weekend are listed here, watch the farm press as activities will be highlighted.

Amazing Grazing: We will kick off the celebration with Amazing Grazing. The evening meal will include an opportunity to catch up with friends in the Holstein fraternity. The 100th Anniversary Quilt and the Famous Cows of Pennsylvania painting, Peaceful Pastures of Pennsylvania, featuring the seven famous cows of Pennsylvania will be displayed during Amazing Grazing. Everyone will also get to enjoy our 100th Anniversary Ice Cream, developed exclusively for PA Holstein's 100th celebration

Silent Auction: A silent auction will be held throughout the celebration. Some early items include: unique milk jug, rare cow photos, historical books and calendars, a handmade wooden table from Russell Jones and a milk stanchion lamp. If you have a special item that you wish to contribute to the silent auction please call Diane Cashell, 717-477-8017.

Fireside chats: Join us at Fireside chats as we spend Saturday reminiscing, storytelling, listening and asking questions as it pertains to cows, activities and membership. There will be 10 panels with many Pennsylvania Holstein leader and members sharing their remembrances. Topic areas include: Classifiers from Pennsylvania, Past PHA presidents, PHA Holstein staff, Pennsylvania’s national directors, Distinguished Junior Members, Youth program winners, Show judges and showmen, Sales managers and photographers, PHA Hall of Fame winners and County association history. Chat groups will be held in breakout session style with options for members to attend. Come with your questions and personal stories to share.

Memorabilia: A memorabilia room will be open to enjoy historical items from Holstein breeders’ private collections. If you have interesting memorabilia you wish to display, please call June Boyer, 717-225-5240.

Looking to the Future: Join the Juniors for breakfast: The Pennsylvania Junior Holstein Association will host the closing breakfast on Sunday, November 10, giving us a glimpse of the PJHA activities through the years and how we will continue the legacy.

Free Exchange Room: A Free Exchange Room will be set up to display and if you wish, give away historical magazines, bull books, and interesting Holstein items.

Cows, Farms, Families - 100 Years of the Pennsylvania Holstein Association: A coffee table hard cover book highlights the last century with photos, county histories, activities and famous cows and influential sires. The book will be available for purchase for $50.

A Labor of Love For the Holstein Cow: The PHA 100th Anniversary quilt started with a pattern, a kit of fabric, creative minds designing each detail, and endless hours of labor and each patch as a unique touch from Mary Jane and Reba as it relates back to cows and PHA. Quilter, Mary Jane Stoltzfus, Berlin, Pa., and Reba Yoder, Elverson, Pa. have designed and quilted numerous unique “cow quilts” through their years as Holstein members. The quilt will be sold Saturday at the evening banquet.

100th Anniversary Commemorative Merchandise: Note cards featuring squares of the commemorative quilt made by Mary Jane Stoltzfus and Reba Yoder, signed prints, gicles and note cards of cow painting by Debbie Cornman, gift-boxed crystal paperweights will all be available. The history book, Cows, Farms & Families - 100 Years of the Pennsylvania Holstein Association will be available for purchase.
