Here’s how you can help
Devastated ranchers need assistance

BROWNSTOWN, Pa. -- A catastrophic snow storm that hit western South Dakota and neighboring areas in early October left countless farmers and ranchers counting gruesome losses. (See pages 22 and 30 for details).

Donations are needed to help the affected cattlemen regain some stabilirty. If you can help, three major fundraising efforts include:

1. The Rancher Relief Fund, established by South Dakota Cattlemen’s Association, South Dakota Stockgrowers Association and South Dakota Sheep Growers Association with the Black Hills Area Community Foundation to assist livestock producers devastated by the blizzard: http://www.giveblackhills.org and search “Rancher Relief Fund.” Checks can also be mailed to Black Hills Area Community Foundation/SD Rancher Relief Fund, at P.O. Box 231, Rapid City, SD 57709.

2. AgChat Foundation has worked with multiple organizations with a goal of raising $500,000. So far, $20,000 has been raised online. Visit http://agchat.org/2013/10/agchat-foundation-partners-to-help-atlas-blizzard-victims.html

3. Heifers for South Dakota, is targeting young producers and gathering heifer pledges, trucking services, and financial contributions. Visit http://helpforsouthdakota.com/. They also have a “heifers for south dakota” facebook page.

4. Support for South Dakota t-shirt sales are also underway. Details about that and more information about the blizzard’s aftermath can be found at Dawn Wink’s blog: dawnwink.wordpress.com
