Junior Holstein convention ticket orders due now

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. -- Members, leaders and friends of the Pennsylvania Junior Holstein Association should be finalizing their preparations and plans for the 2014 Junior Convention, to be held at the Ramada Inn & Conference Center in State College. Ticket orders for anyone planning on participating in any convention weekend activities are due immediately. Don’t forget to get your orders on time so you can enjoy all of the fun times PJHA has planned.

The convention schedule will follow a similar pattern to years past, with changes influenced by the State College area. Friday, February 14, will start off the weekend with the Dairy Jeopardy and Prepared Public Speaking contests, DJM interviews and Dairy Bowl seeding tests. If you are not participating in any contests, tours to the classic Penn State Creamery and the brand new Pegula Ice Arena will be going on during the day.

To end the first day, dinner and a night of fun will be available for everyone. Juniors will be given the opportunity to participate in a wing eating contest, test out their cowboy (or cowgirl) skills on a mechanical bull, as well as learn some line dances.

Saturday, February 15, starts with the Junior and Senior Dairy Bowl Competitions, Extemporaneous Speech Contest and the 2nd annual “Man On the Street” impromptu interview contest. Sign-ups for the Extemporaneous and “Man On the Street” contest will open and be available during registration times. There will be several alternate tour options for those not participating in Saturday’s contests.

The morning tour will travel to Evergreen Farms, one of the largest dairy farms in Pennsylvania, and Delgrosso Foods, a family owned company that produces a popular variety of tomato based products.

The afternoon options include either a session of laser tag or the opportunity to try a new technology ... 3D printing. Please indicate on your ticket order form which Saturday afternoon activity you wish to do.

Saturday evening will start with a banquet to recognize the 2013 Junior All-Pennsylvania winners, followed by the junior dance. The DJ will play new hits and juniors will have an opportunity to enjoy fun activities and prizes will be available.

Sunday, February 16, will conclude the convention with the annual awards breakfast. The hard work and accomplishments of junior members will be acknowledged.

During the weekend, there will be time to check out the well-stocked dairy bar and catch up with friends from across the state. There will also be a gift bag provided that is expected to be the talk of the convention.

Juniors are reminded to bring their photos of people, animals or scenery and artwork which can be either a sketch/painting or 3-D design/sculpture for those contests held during the convention as well.
