FREDERICK, Md. -- The Mid Atlantic Brown Swiss Futurity is getting ready to celebrate its 20th anniversary which will be the finale for this most prestigious event in August, 2013. This Futurity was a project of the Maryland Brown Swiss Association to stimulate interest in breeding and developing outstanding registered Brown Swiss for production and type regardless of herd size. The quality and caliber of Swiss exhibited in this Futurity is one of the best in the United States. This is a show featuring junior and senior 2-year-olds.

The Mid Atlantic Brown Swiss Futurity started in 1994 with the first one held at the Maryland State Fair. The judge for this event was Richard Keene, Gilbertville, N.Y., and the winner was Meadow Hill Jade Alice-ET, exhibited by the Gary Mase Family of Pennsylvania. “Alice” was sired by Bridge View Elegant Jade, and her dam was Meadow Hill Titan Agatha.

All good things come to an end and it has been a Maryland Brown Swiss Association Board of Directors decision to conclude the Mid Atlantic Brown Swiss Futurity after a successful 20-year run, which will be next year, 2013! Please note this—as this will be a nice celebration and an event to remember.

This Futurity has produced many All- American winners, Reserve All-Americans, Honorable Mentions, and ones who received nominations. Some of the most notable winners were: Top Acres Coll Party who holds the title of the highest selling female in breed history at $86,000.

The most famous Futurity winner has been Old Mill E Snickerdoodle, the 2001 Futurity winner. Snickerdoodle has been grand champion at World Dairy Expo and named supreme champion at the 2004 World Dairy Expo, the ultimate prize.

In the last 19 Futurities, at least 15 Futurity winners went on to be an All- American or Reserve All-American. Maryland is very proud of these winning animals which verify the high quality and high level competition—going on to the “Big” shows in the fall.

The Futurity has always had nationally qualified and recognized judges over the years, and 2013 will be no exception. This will be determined at the Fall Brown Swiss meeting in November.

The entry fee is a one time payment of $25. The eligibility are females born September 1, 2010 through August 31, 2011. The deadline for payment and entry is January 1, 2013, so don’t delay- send today!

Remember, you have to be in it to win it!

The winning entry receives a $500 check along with a large authentic Swiss bell from Switzerland. And then monies are paid out for the class.
