Scholarships offered in Lancaster County

LANCASTER, Pa. -- One of the objectives of the Lancaster County Farm & Home Foundation is to encourage the higher education of the youth of Lancaster County. In this respect, the Foundation is announcing the offering of scholarship awards for students beginning their freshman year in 2014 studying agriculture or family and consumer sciences.

Each scholarship award will be in the amount of $1000 per year renewable for up to four years and may be used to help defray tuition, fees, or room and board expenses at any accredited educational institution. Scholarships are awarded on financial need, leadership, and academic achievements.

The Farm & Home Foundation Scholarships are earnings from an Irrevocable Trust Fund set up by the late Elmer L. Esbenshade, one of the founders of the Lancaster County Farm & Home Foundation. The income from this trust fund will be offered annually in the form of educational scholarships through the Farm and Home Foundation. Since its inception, 464 scholarships have been awarded with a total value of over $540,000.

Scholarship applications are available from senior guidance counselors in all school districts in Lancaster County, the Penn State Cooperative Extension office of Lancaster County phone: 717-394-6851 and at the Farm & Home Center website: www.farmandhomecenter.com.
