Room reservations and ticket orders due by Feb. 1

Pa. Holstein enthusiasts called to convention

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. -- The 2012 Pennsylvania Holstein Convention will be held February 23-25 in Lancaster County at the Doubletree-Willow Valley in Lancaster. The schedule of events includes traditional favorites such as the dairy bar, awards banquets, host tours and the return of a live animal convention sale.

Thursday, February 23, the board of directors will meet at 10:00 a.m., followed by the 99th annual meeting of the Pennsylvania Holstein Association. There will be a tour available on Thursday afternoon to the new Turkey Hill Farm Experience (turkeyhillexperience.com) and the National Watch and Clock Museum. Thursday evening will include recognition of membership solicitation winners, Progressive Breeder and Genetic Herd winners and the 2011 All- Pennsylvania winners. Guests will be entertained by Brad Crum who does “Elvis-The Soul and Sound of a Legend.” His performance is filled with Elvis’ genuine sound, look and feel of the man himself. The evening will conclude with a fun auction that benefits the Pennsylvania Junior Holstein Association and their many activities.

On Friday, February 24, the dairy bar and commercial exhibits will open early to accommodate guests. The Holstein Association USA Region II meeting is scheduled for the early morning session. Host Day tour activities will get started at 10:45a.m., with a trip to Cedar Crest Holsteins, Cocalico Holsteins, and Star Rock Holsteins. Lunch will included as part of the tour.

Attendees who do not want to visit these farms can venture on their own to shopping outlets or visit some local sights. Information will be available at the registration desk to help you find some of Lancaster County’s treasures.

A banquet reception will kick off Friday night’s activities, where there will be the opportunity to visit with exhibitors and sponsors while enjoying south-central Pennsylvania hospitality. The convention banquet will include naming the recipients of the Hall of Fame, Pioneer and Young Breeder Awards.

Saturday, February 25, the Solanco Fairgrounds in Quarryville will host the 2012 PHA Convention Sale, starting at 10 a.m. Many top animals from around the state and the country have been catalogued. This will be a live animal sale, be sure to check sale advertising to keep up to date on all the sale offerings. The catalog will be available at www.paholsteinsales.com
